Mitra
Kostamo is a singer/songwriter that writes from the
soul. "Music for me is an expression of who I am and
where I have been. It is a great tool for communicating
ideas and thoughts to others." Mitra began performing as
a young child in church and sang her way through school.
Although trained in classical music, her roots are
steeped in southern gospel. Mitra is no amateur when it
comes to performing, she has performed in various venues
across the States and in Canada, touring with choirs,
bands and solo acts. "For me, being on stage is a great
platform to touch someone's heart, stir their soul and
get them to think about life from a greater
perspective."
The album
Soul Flight (www.soulflightmusic.com)
which is a musical collaboration with composer, Carolyn
Short (www.carlyreamusic.com)
has reached airwaves world wide. "Working with Carolyn,
was such a thrilling experience for me. The music is
very spiritual and brings you into a place of solitude
and peace."
Mitra
currently resides in beautiful British Columbia with her
husband and music producer, Moses Kostamo (www.mokoproductions.com) and their five children. "My family is top priority for
me. Above all else, I love being a mom. My husband and I
are very family oriented and believe that our children
should be involved in our live shows as much as
possible. From setting up the sound gear to playing on
stage, it is important that we participate together as a
family. " Mitra's solo project "Simple Me" has taken a
few years to complete. "It's a running joke in our
family because every time we get close to completing the
album, another baby comes along and postpones the
production." However, after years of writing and
recording, the project is finally complete. The finished
product is a collection of Mitra's favorite songs
recorded over the last ten years. The songs are timeless
and the lyrics refreshing. It is definitely one album
you won't want to miss. Simple Me is now available
online and at selected retailers.
"We
are all given an opportunity to make a positive impact
in life, but it is up to each individual to make that
conscious choice to do so."
